Start of Summer
Ok so this summer I'm going to try to keep this updated with how things are going at my Co-op/life.
So in the beginning there was summer, and it was a void and without form.... ok sorry.
Yeah so I have to say, going into this Co-op Internship again for this second session is really pretty scary. Last semester was pretty tough. I spent many days just wishing that I could go home, wondering what I had gotten myself into, and wondering why God had placed me there if it was just going to be painful. There were a couple of projects here and there that I really enjoyed, but that was a small percentage of the time. I'm hoping that, since I know what the company does and have a good overview of the facility, that I can jump in and actually become an engineer this summer. A major factor last semester could have been a lack of involvement on my part. I guess I expected them to be giving me things to do, like class I guess where they have things that they give you and start to work you into bigger and bigger things. Occasionally that did happen too. People would give me projects to work on, or stuff to do. and I enjoyed that, but it was a small percentage of the time.
So by the end of last semester, when I sat down with my mentor and we talked about my performance, I realized that it was a lot of my responsibility to work myself into things myself. So, knowing what I know now, perhaps this summer can be a really good experience. I'm hoping and praying that it will be, at least.
I don't plan on going back after this summer though. Even if it turns out well, this coop shuts down any other opportunity in college. I want to have the chance to work for different companies in different positions and in a different area. I don't like LaPorte. It is kind've a strange factory town. you feel like you go back in time 20 years once you drive in. It seems normal at first glance, but it is a little strange. I can't imagine living there, or working for Howmet as a career. short term, it's fine, but I can't see a long term there.
So anyways, any prayers would be appreciated. I'll try to update regularly
